The C-section That Started It All!
Well, hello, and welcome back. So I wanted to come on here since c-section Awareness Month, I have all these little episodes that I wanted to drop throughout. Because I've had three C sections.
So I want to bring some awareness to the fact that you can have C sections and if you would, like a vaginal birth, it is possible or just bring, you know, awareness to the fact that C sections happen.
It's okay if you want to have a C-section. It's all your choice. So I wanted to talk about my first C-section. This was with my Angelina, who we lovingly call Jolini. So I was 16 when I got pregnant with her, and I had her a month before I turned 17. So I was very young, very uneducated. I did not realize that I should research and educate myself about birth, because I just figured, well, birth is natural, and my body, you'll know how to do it, which, yes, my body does know how to do it. But when put in a hospital setting and put on a clock, it's not always the best experience.
So I'm gonna dive into my birth experience with her a little bit. So I had, I had a pretty good pregnancy, I don't remember, you know, and this was almost 18 years ago. So my memory might be a little foggy, but I don't remember it being a bad experience. Let's see, I went into labor after her due date. It was a couple days after and we hit actually gone to San Francisco to celebrate somebody's birthday. And so we had been walking all day long. And miles, it had to be miles we were in San Francisco and you know, walking up and down those hills and everything. If you're not familiar, San Francisco, California, so which is like an hour and a half close to two hour drive from us.
I went into labor, my water had broken, which I didn't realize I thought I had peed myself at first, but nope, it was my water. And a couple hours after it had broken. So I had gone back to sleep, I just put a paddle and cleaned myself up and went back to sleep. I had woken up like one or two hours later with contractions, very light contractions. And I was like, oh, shoot, I'm in labor. I'll be honest, I kind of freaked out.
I was like, Oh my God, what do I do? And I was living with my daughter's father at the time and his parents. And so his mom, she's very sweet. She was very loving towards me. And I feel like we had a great relationship. So she had suggested, at least I think it was her that suggested I take a shower. So I showered. And you know, I was trying to you know, relax a little bit. W
e actually left fairly quickly after my contractions started to go to the hospital. I mean, I didn't know any better. I just asked what I had always witnessed, you know, for movies and Hollywood and whatnot. So I thought that was normal. I thought that's what we had to do. So we went to the hospital. And I don't remember what I was how many centimeters or anything when we got there.
It's very foggy, like, wow, almost 18 years ago, that was a long time ago. But I do and I was in labor. So you know, when you're in labor, you're just trying to focus on getting through one contraction at a time. So everything was very foggy, but I do remember that I did get to four centimeters. But they said that I was not progressing yet. I was encouraged to stay in bed. And because they wanted to monitor my baby and all that all the things. I was hooked up to everything you could imagine. So I did labor unmedicated the whole time, which I feel like you know, of course, it was difficult because I didn't know how to cope, but I was able to cope through it.
I'm sure I was tense, you know, in which if you're tense, then that kind of slows your labor down because your body doesn't feel like it's safe to give birth. So yeah, I labored and then I remember they said that there was a heart deceleration, and said that I needed a C-section, quote-unquote, emergency C-section.
But you know, the baby was fine, she was fine. So you know, they had set the spinal and you know, it was very cold, very sterile there, they had put blankets on me because I was freezing and I'm just laying on this table.
I hear a baby cry after so long and they had given her to her father. So he was holding her and I was just laying there.
I was happy, of course, but I just felt so cold and disconnected and very sterile. And, you know, it was like, I could hear the doctors talking amongst themselves. And I remember the doctor was saying something about how she was going to be able to make her dinner that she was hoping to get to. And it was like, Oh my gosh, I hate this is so impersonal.
I heard my Dr. and she was talking about her dinner plans and how she'll definitely be able to make her dinner plans since you know, I had my C-section, I had my baby.
So anyways, my baby was born, and she was perfect. Postpartum was rough. You know, I was a teenager trying to figure out breastfeeding and all the things. But my baby was born. So I was very happy. I was also healing from this surgery, So that was hard, but you know, here we are.
So that was just a little snippet of her birth, and I just wanted to share that.
So let me know about your C-section birth. I would love to know how your first C-section or only C-section how that came about.
Thank you for reading, and I will see you very soon. Bye.
