Meet your Doula, Petra!

What led me to this beautiful calling…

When I had my first daughter at the age of 17, I went into labor without preparing myself in any way.

I was young, uneducated, and while in labor was deemed failure to progress which resulted in a c-section.

After this birth, I decided I wanted to be in the medical field and become a labor and delivery nurse. After completing some courses, I decided that working in a hospital-based setting was not for me.

Fast forward to now, I have had three more children, and the fire inside of me to be a part of a woman's pregnancy to the birth of their baby and beyond has become intensely strong.

My second C-section was due to having placenta previa, but I never realized it could move out of the way, so I let them perform a C-section at 36 weeks.

For my third C-section, my doctor informed me that neither she nor the hospital supported vaginal birth after C-section because it was “too dangerous.”

I allowed the doctor to instill fear into me and agreed to a repeat elective C-section at 39 weeks.

After the C-section, I had amended with myself that if we had any more children I would do whatever it takes to accomplish a vaginal birth after 3 C-sections (Vba3c).

I studied and researched relentlessly to make sure I was informed with not only evidence-based research but also first-hand testaments from women who had succeeded in having a vaginal birth after three C-sections or more.

During my whole pregnancy, I trained myself mentally and physically as if I were training for a marathon. I left no stone unturned and that included hiring a doula who also doubled as my placenta specialist as I wanted to consume my placenta after researching all the possible benefits. I wanted my postpartum experience to be completely different, better, and done MY way!

After I was blessed to be supported by my doula, I decided that this was the way I could help support women and their babies. I have become enveloped in the birth world and I'm so excited to share my knowledge and firsthand experiences. I have found my true calling: to help support you and your partner (if you have one) in your unique experience of parenthood.

I want you to feel empowered, feel like your voice matters, and have all the tools necessary to have the beautiful birth you've always dreamt of, whether it be a belly birth or vaginal birth. I have been able to experience both types of birth so I feel confident that I can support you mentally and physically through this exhilarating time of your life.

Whichever way your baby is birthed, how you were treated during the experience matters, your voice matters, your feelings are valid, and you should be able to feel like the powerful goddess you are! I mean, you’re growing a human… That’s pretty badass!! 🪄

I want to enlighten and encourage you to enjoy this special, once-in-a-lifetime season as every pregnancy and birth can be different.

Even though I’d love to support all mothers, sometimes personalities or values don’t work well together.

In the instance that we don’t think we’re a good fit, I’d be more than happy to refer you to another local birth worker with zero hard feelings.

The most important thing is that you are supported the way YOU want to be.

Sweet words from clients

What I have learned along the way

and how we can use that knowledge to our advantage

01. I am a Birth & Postpartum Doula

This means I provide support to people during the full spectrum of pregnancy – from conception, birth and beyond!

02. Placenta Encapsulation Specialist

I have trained and encapsulated many placentas. Placenta encapsulation is beneficial in helping you recover from vaginal or c-section birth with increased energy and possibly increasing your milk supply among other things.

03. Birth Education

My wealth of knowledge is to your advantage, I have studied several different styles of birth preparation techniques which include hypnobirthing practices, breath exercises, mindset training toward having a pain-free birth and dare I say, blissful labor!

Here are some fun facts about me

I haven’t started doing it again since having Luke but I love jiu jitsu and powerlifting and have competed in both sports.

My favorite holiday is Christmas because I love getting together with family to make sugar cookies and tamales!

One of my daughters is named Leia and my son is named Luke… Yes, we did that on purpose and yes we kinda like Star Wars 😄
