What is a Postpartum Doula?

Postpartum isn’t meant to be survived alone. With personalized doula support, you can heal, bond, and thrive — your way.

A postpartum doula is your guide and extra set of hands after baby arrives.

I’m here to support YOU, not just with newborn care, but with meals, sleep, healing, and the emotional ups and downs that come with this season. Think of me as part educator, part nurturer, and part sanity-saver. 😉

This isn’t an exhaustive list, and everything is tailored to your needs

  1. Emotional Support – A safe, nonjudgmental space to process your birth, joys, and challenges.

  2. Newborn Care Guidance – From soothing techniques to feeding support, I help you feel confident in caring for your baby.

  3. Healing & Rest Support – Making sure you eat nourishing foods, get rest, and take care of your body and mind too.

  4. Practical Household Help – Light household tasks like laundry, dishes, or meal prep so you can focus on bonding with your baby.

  5. Practical Help for you - Care for the baby so you can sleep, eat, shower, and we can go on a walk together. I can help you care for other children and help create a daily schedule if you’d like.

  6. Education – Evidence-based info tailored to your family, this is never a one-size-fits-all script.

What I DON’T do as your Postpartum Doula.

I don’t replace medical care:
I’m not a doctor, midwife, or nurse. I don’t diagnose conditions or prescribe treatments. Instead, I provide evidence-based information and help you know when to reach out to your provider.

I don’t take over parenting:
My role is to support and guide, not to raise your baby for you. I’ll help you build confidence in your own parenting choices rather than stepping in to do it all.

I don’t provide long-term childcare:
While I might hold or soothe your baby so you can shower, nap, or eat in peace, I’m not a babysitter or nanny. My support is about caring for you as much as your little one.

I don’t judge your choices:
Formula or breastfeeding, co-sleeping or crib, babywearing or strollers, I support you in making the decisions that feel right for your family.

I don’t run your household:
I can do light chores like laundry, dishes, or meal prep to ease your load, but I’m not a housekeeper. My focus is on creating a calm, supportive environment for healing and bonding.

What are the advantages of hiring a doula?

Research shows that having postpartum support can lower rates of postpartum depression, improve breastfeeding success, and help families feel more connected in this big transition.

Holistically, I believe every mom deserves to heal and step into motherhood feeling supported. Body, mind, and spirit.

No two families are alike, so everything I do is tailored to your needs, rhythms, and values.

What I can do for you.

Welcoming a baby is beautiful! But it can also be overwhelming. That’s where postpartum doula care comes in.

My role is to help you heal, rest, and transition smoothly into parenthood, whether this is your first or fifth baby.

What’s included:

Initial consult (30–60 min)
We’ll meet virtually or in person to connect, talk through your needs, and make sure we’re the right fit. If I’m not, I’ll refer you to the other amazing doulas in the community.

Customized Postpartum Planning Session (1–2 hours)
Together, we’ll create a postpartum plan that supports your physical recovery, emotional well-being, partner’s role, rest, meal prep, and boundary setting. You’ll also receive resources for lactation consultants, pelvic floor therapy, and maternal mental health.

In-home or virtual support
Every visit is tailored to your needs and may include:

Now a little more about who I am…

Hi, I’m Petra, a mom of 4, doula, educator, and someone who has walked through just about every version of birth and postpartum there is.

I became a mom as a teenager, and that experience shaped so much of who I am today. I know what it feels like to face motherhood with courage, uncertainty, and determination all at once.

Each of my babies came with their own unique journey: from 3 cesareans to a triumphant vaginal birth after those 3 cesareans, and each postpartum season taught me that healing, support, and rest look different every single time.

In my life before doula-ing, I spent about 15 years doing CNA work with the elderly, caring for people with patience and compassion.

I also drove a school bus for special needs children and adults for 7 years. Both jobs taught me how to stay calm under pressure, keep a cool head in stressful moments, and meet people exactly where they are, skills I now carry into birth and postpartum work every single day.

I’m trained and certified through The VBAC Link and Birthworker Academy as a Birth and Postpartum Doula, a Certified Birth Educator, and a Placenta Encapsulation Specialist through Brilliant Birth Academy.

I also hold my Food Handler’s Card and OSHA Bloodborne Pathogens Certification to ensure safety and professionalism in everything I do. And because staying current matters, I’m a proud member of Evidence Based Birth, where I receive monthly articles on the latest research in pregnancy, birth, and postpartum care.

But certifications aside, here’s the real truth: I’ve lived it!

I’ve been the exhausted new mom, wondering if she’ll ever feel like herself again. I’ve been the one juggling recovery, older kids, and all the emotions that come with it. And now, I’m the doula who shows up for you with compassion, evidence-based tools, holistic care, and a genuine belief that you already have everything you need inside you. I’m just here to remind you of that. ❤️

So whether you need someone to hold your baby while you nap, prepare nourishing food, guide you through the emotional waves, or just sit in the silence with you, I’ve got you.

My goal is to make sure YOU feel mothered, supported, and never alone in this wild and beautiful transition.

✨ Because every mom deserves a doula ✨
